As a career counselor, I think that I would not want someone to give up what they want to be (some of these classes are probably prerequisites)just because a class is hard. Other factors could include a difficult or bad teacher or just wanting to know the material better.<br />There is one instance in which I might agree. If the person was failing intro to micro economics and that person really wanted to study micro economics, it might be a good idea to rechannel to some other business or other topic.
